Long Axis Motion Control

  • Motion along the length of the Router Gantry System is now controlled by a rack and pinion style drive system. The rack gears are fully CNC machined from 6061 aluminum, with the matching pinion gear being machined from solid Acetal resin identical to the linear slides of the RGS itself.
  • The rack gearing comes in 27-1/2 inch lengths and are machined for simple butt-joints to expand to match any "standard" size RGS we produce. If you have a custom-cut unit, please give us a call to accommodate.
  • The rack gears are mounted to the outisde-facing dovetail connector grooves along the RGS rails using standoffs and our dovetail shaped connectors. Through-holes for the hex keys are drilled into the side of the rack gear sections to allow easy access to the connectors to lock them in place during assembly.
  • Each rack gear is oriented with the teeth facing downward, with the pinion gear being under the rack. This prevents the bridge assembly of the RGS from being able to lift upwards away from the material during a cut.

Short Axis Motion Control

  • The short axis, or "Y" axis, of the units remain controlled by the 1/2-10 Acme threaded rod found in our existing units.
  • We have a motor bracket that fits under the shoulder bolts that hold the end cap in place, paired with a standard encoder or "spider" style coupling.
  • Simply remove the hand crank, install the spider coupling, and then slide the motor & bracket assembly into place locking it down with the shoulder bolts.

Control Box

  • The control box for every unit will be fully assembled and tested prior to shipment. All components are DIN rail mounted industrial-style electronics. The control board is solid state and should not require programming changes, though being Arduino based the possibilities are endless with the proper knowledge. A blunt word of caution: If you change the programming, you're on your own to figure it out.

Position Control

  • The position control of the units is not G-code based, or honestly even numerically controlled as far as distances or speeds go.
  • The units are in constant "hunting" mode, always looking to the proximity switches to indicate on one of the flags. The units keep count of the number of indications per limit switch and that dictates which routine the program executes.
  • This means that you may move the limit switch flags during operation if you see you're cutting air for no reason or if you didn't quite reach the end of a slab or table. It is always best to re-home the unit of course, but minor adjustments are perfectly fine.
  • Running the "Home" routine will erase all counts and is the best way to recover the unit in the case of errors or unexpected movements/lack of movement.

See Product Features Above

Depending on the unit size selected, each unit will come with the main control unit, limit switches, motor brackets, stepper motors, cable trays, protective cable drags, rack and pinion gearing, stand-offs, connector pieces, and appropriate length cables and cable extensions if required.

All units will be assembled and tested in our shop prior to being disassembled, packaged, and shipped. Truthfully, re-assembly of the units won't take long at all once you receive them because most of the small odds-and-ends will already be done by us like mounting the motors into the brackets.

All retrofit kits will include two new long linear slides (long runners) as we have added two mounting locations to the outside edge for the long/X axis motor brackets to be mounted to.
